Welcome to Critter Haven of Brasstown, NC. Never heard of Brasstown you say??
Well it is a small community located in Clay county about 2 hours west of Asheville, NC. In fact it is also about 2 hrs from of Atlanta GA, Chattanooga, TN and Knoxville TN! Heck it is about 2 hrs from anywhere…. which is a song by a local group called Irons in the Fire and one of my favorites.
Brasstown is probably best known as the home of the John C Campbell Folk School. A unique school that teaches various kinds of arts & crafts, gardening, cooking, wood carving, blacksmithing, dancing and music. Check out their site for more information & to see pictures of the beautiful campus.
Brasstown is also home to Clay’s Corner home of the infamous New Years Eve Possum Drop. Yes you read right – a possum drop, well not really a drop but a lowering. The store has a bit of anything and everything and is as unique as he is so be sure to stop in check it out. You can’t miss it, it’s right on the corner at the bridge before the Folk School.
There are also the shops at Brasstown Village, full of beautiful locally handmade arts and crafts. They are great places to shop for unique gifts or just visit with the owners all of which are artists themselves.
